Graduated on Food Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) specializing in Intellectual Property from Instituto Tecnologico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM).

Experience

Karla has over 15 years of experience in patents. She has worked in several prestigious firms and from 2012 to 2016 was leading the Patent Department from a well-known Mexican IP firm.

With her wide knowledge of the International IP market as well as the needs of the Mexican and Latin American market, Karla has the ability of identifying the commercial interest of the international clients and develop and suggest creative strategies for protecting their assets.

Due to her responsiveness and full commitment, Karla is recognized by clients and peers as a very dedicated and passionate person. For the time that she has been involved in international conferences, she has built an exceptional image which has contributed to build an important network worldwide.

Karla has been nominated as “Rising Star” by Managing Intellectual Property and Chambers and Partners as “Future Leader” for her participation in matters of transcendence and for being one of the handful women in Patents in Mexico, directing a group.

She was recently given the "Rising Star" in IP award for Latin America by Euromoney’s Americas Women in Business Law.

Karla has most recently been recognized as one of the Top 250 Women in IP by Managing Intellectual Property.

For being one of the handful women who directed a patent practice in Mexico, Karla was invited to become a committee member of Women in IP from the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) wherein she organized and hosted the first Women IP event in Mexico, representing Mexico in the worldwide event organized by AIPLA.

She is an active member of professional national and international organizations, such as the Mexican Association for the Protection of the Intellectual Property (AMPPI), Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI); American International Patent Firms (AIPF, wherein she was a Board Member); Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Intellectuelle (FICPI); International Trademark Association (INTA); and Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA).
