Nowadays people are more concerned with the environment and the climate global changes. In this way, the “Green Patent” programme was created by the Brazilian PTO (INPI) to contribute with it, aiming to speed up the exam of patent application related to technology focused on the environment, allowing these technologies to reach the market soon, stimulating licensing and encouraging innovation all over the country.

Brazil was the first emerging economy to launch a green patent fast-track programme. In April 2012, the Brazilian PTO launched a pilot programme to accelerate green patent applications. The Green Patent programme is now on its third phase, which will last until April 16, 2015 or when the figure of 500 new requests has been reached. In this new phase of the program, patent applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) are also being taken into account.

Please be informed that the Argentinean Patent Office (INPI) has published on August 29th 2014 in the National Official Bulletin the Resolution P187-2014, which requires applicants of pending patents filed before January 1st 2013 claiming priority from a foreign application to inform the National Office whether the priority application has been granted or not.

On July 4, 2014, the Mexican Tax Authority published the amendments to the Foreign Trade General Rules. Among other changes, it was agreed that importers of certain types of goods must now declare if such goods are protected by a trademark registration and declare whether the importer is the titleholder of the trademark registration or not.
